Nude comparisons!

It's finally here, the promised nude comparison post :P

When I first started getting into polish (all those years ago ;)) I couldn't understand the fascination with nude polishes, I was like why would I want to paint my nails in a flesh colour when there's the entire rainbow and more to use!! But now I see the attraction (this must be growing up ;P) they are good as palette cleansers in between more cray manis, they make your fingers look longer and make you look more put together and polished (sorry!).

I only used 4 polishes in this comparison as these are the 4 most similar - in terms of opacity and finish, I have Illamasqua Monogamous  and Barry M Nude too but they are too different to the others.

Lets get into it then!
In the bottles they don't look that similar however when they are on the nail they look completely different to how they do in the bottle...

OPI - My Vampire is Buff: Two coats, my favourite as it feels cleaner than the others. £11.50
Essie - Sand Tropez: Two coats, looks more like a cement grey than a flesh tone however when worn alone it looks a lot more neutral. £7.99
Gosh - Highschool Flirt: Two coats, very similar to MVIB but slightly warmer. £3.99
Maybelline Forever Strong - Rose Poudre: Two coats, pink toned beige. £4.09

Like I said my favourite by far is MVIB with Highschool Flirt as a close second, it definitely is the closest to my skintone and looks flattering on everyone that I've seen wearing it! The only downside is the price that we pay for OPI in the UK in shops, I got mine from Sally's Salon Services, obviously you can get them cheaper online but you know I like instant gratification ;).

There are still some Essie nudes that I'm interested in and L'Oreal are bringing out their new nude collection with lipsticks and polishes so I'll probably get those too ;) If I was in the US I'd definitely check out RGB x HIPP nail foundations and tints because they look awesome!!

Hope you enjoyed this post :)

Gosh - Highschool Flirt with all gold errythang

Hey :) I'm in a good mood today, good feedback for my last project and these nails are really photogenic ha!!

I wanted to treat myself for doing good ;) so I wanted to pick up Chanel Frenzy and possibly another but whaddya know my local debenhams don't got no Frenzy :( so I'm going to order it online....although I prefer instant gratification ;). Anyway I was also going to try Essie Barefoot and Topless and Barry M Lychee to continue my search for the perfect nude but my boots don't got no B&T and they sold out of Lychee! So I went to Superdrug and again no Lychee but I picked up this Gosh polish which I thought was half price but no it was full price, only like £4.99 or something but still...
I liked the look of it and I really like the lids of the special editions :D there were a few there that I didn't recognise and they still had a couple of Holographic Hero left so if you're in Ipswich and want to pick one up go to Superdrug man! Okay I'm going on a few tangents today hahaha anyway when I got home I looked for swatches and found out that it's from their spring/summer collection that was only released a couple of days ago so this is a bit on the ball for me ;).

I finally remembered whilst I was in town to grab some cheap necklaces so I could use the chains as embellishments so I added them to the base of my nails in the style of My Nails are Dope (I follow her on instagram, awesome nail artist just search for mynailsaredope) and my nails indeed look dope ;)

I got two of the same picture just because I liked both of them and couldn't choose between them :)

I really like the colour, it's a near match! A lot better than Sand Tropez on me anyway, I love love love nude nails especially when they get embellished with gold. The chain was super easy to cut with scissors and I just stuck it down with the polish then topped off with Seche Vite and I imagine they'll stay put until I want to get rid :). I thought I'd show you one of the necklaces I got, it's from H&M and it came in a pack of three and cost a measley £6.99 and the chain will last ages as they're fairly long and you get three!
If anyone was wondering the shirt is from Primark! I couldn't believe it when I saw it on somewhere, probably instagram...I spend waaaaay too much time on there ;) I'm thinking of doing some nails inspired by it as it's so good!! C'mon Koi karps, funny looking birds, flowers and plant life I'm yours ;).

How'd you like the colour/embellishment??

Girly camo nail art

Hi!
Firstly how amazing was our opening ceremony ;)? I couldn't stay up to watch all the athletes entering the stadium (I went to bed before Team GB!) but I really loved every second of it :D I can't wait for gymnastics and swimming as Rebecca Adlington comes from my home town!! Woo :D.
Anyway I wanted to do camo nails so bad ever since I saw Madeline Poole's nails that she did a while ago, they just look fun in my opinion. I know though that this won't be everyone's cup of tea and that's fine as I like them hehehe.
They are really easy to do but like I discovered they can look really stupid if you do it wrong lol I know that's a kind of contradiction but when I first tried on paper I had no idea what I was doing, so I gave it a few practise runs then dived in and they look like camouflage so that's all good.
I don't know why my index nail looks so bulbous :( it's not really like that, it's slim I swear!

Sorry about the shadows! It's just too sunny here ;)
I started with OPI Stranger Tides as it's a nearly khaki shade :P plus it's nice and light and so can take other colours easily. I used the smallest and pointy dotting tools and just dipped and dragged ;) and dotted the shapes on, starting with the lime green which is Gosh Early Green, then the pink which is an unamed Barry M and finally the brown which is Essie Little Brown Dress. I had to take photos in amongst the trees as that was where the sun was annnnd it's camo y'know ;). This design looks better in real life, it's fun!

I'm posting this early as I have my first ever paid photography job later! I'm really nervous even though it's a family friend as I'm more used to shooting fashion/fine art not weddingy stuff. I'm photographing the bride getting ready and I'm stressing about the lighting, hopefully she'll be by a big window that would be ideal otherwise the indoor lighting will just cast a horrid yellow cast on her :(. Gah stop freaking maaaan lol. Then I'm off to her wedding reception which should be fun :).

Have a great weekend everyone!

Gosh 606 Early Green swatches & a surprise!

Hey everyone (new followers yay!)
Today I bought a polish that I've been needing for ages; lime green :D hehee so I got it from Gosh in superdrugfor £4.99 which is totally stingy seen as you only get 8ml! Anyway it is just the colour I was looking for, it's nice and bright but not neon but still in your face ;). From the bottle it looks quite subdued but don't be fooled.
Surprise!!
I finally did it. I finally had enough length to reshape my squovals into ovals! Eventually I want them to be skinnier almost pointed but not like scary stilettos but that won't happen until they grow some more (which should be in a couple of days ;)) I was scared to do it but I was really bored of my nails plus this way I can have them longer than I used to without them looking creepy long. LOL. I really like them now, at first I thought I'd made a mistake but not anymore, they look more elegant too :).
Having them this shape also means I could do this design that I've wanted to do for ages but it wouldn't suit squovals and I didn't have a lime green :P.

These are all taken in natural lighting.....obviously :P as it was nice outside for about 5 minutes ha. I freehanded the pink tips using the pink nails supreme pen, then I added the white with Barry M Matte White and did the leopard splodges. When I put seche vite on it somehow dragged the pink back onto the bottom of my nails? I saw this design in a wah nails advert and I knew I would have to recreate it one day! I love it, so fun and summery.

What do you think to my new nail shape?
